During March 2018, Year 5/6 took part in author Chris Fielden’s ’81-word short story challenge’. For this they had to write a story that was exactly 81 words long. We had several attempts at this, drating, re-drafting, editing punctuation etc.
We also agreed on a set of Process Criteria – the stories had to use interesting or unusual vocabulary, personification, higher level punctuation and a range of sentences types.
Finally we typed them up and submitted them to Chris’ website, where they can be seen here: http://www.christopherfielden.com/writing-challenges/81words-stories-301-to-400.php
Chris was kind enough to email us back to say how much he enjoyed reading the children’s stories and to thank us for entering.
As a bonus step, each child recorded themselves reading their story.
The 2 runners up were Harley and Keith!
The 2 main prize winners were Paige and Finlay!
All pupils in the school, all staff and Mrs Kidd voted on to decide which story was the best between Paige and Finlay’s and unbelievably there was only ONE VOTE separating the two entries! Both stories were deserving winners, but there could only be 1 ultimate champion and that title goes to…..Paige Murray for ‘Fashion Life’, which took 31 votes out of 61! Congratulations Paige!
